Stuck in that place of fighting for clients, of lack of clients, or of feeling unappreciated by your clients? You need to get out of here.
Last week, I heard about this place that I once visited.
You see, I didn’t really much like it there. You know one of those places that seem to have a dim, gloomy, lingering air?
They remind me of some parts of some of the old seaside towns in the UK. There are parts of those towns you DEFINITELY don’t want to go to – that kind of place that might as well bear a sign saying
‘abandon hope all ye who enter here’.
Because obviously in the UK we still say words like ‘ye’. Anyway- this town, then?
They call it Vendorland. And I’m a bit worried you might be living there. But more about that in a minute.
I mean, could it even SOUND any more depressing? For me it conjurs up images of vending machines-
Mass produced-hulks of metal, offering generic junk in all it’s techno-colour bright and garish glory, of which you either avoid or if you are totally desperate you find whatever you have change for in your pocket, your choice based on the money you have available right there and then.
What it really is then?
Are those mass-produced businesses, all standing in a row, offering the same or similar things, which clients visit to buy from based on AFFORDABILITY OR PRICE.
Is there anything wrong with that?
Well, you tell me.
If you’re content to offer the same as everyone else
To have people come and price shop you
To have people pick apart your work and your creativity and your packages as they try to squeeze YOU into THEIR affordability
If you want clients who actually – don’t value you and your work (and please- those words about how you want to be affordable for everyone? if that’s you- stop reading, as there is little point reading any more. This is for those who want to get OUT of that range and stop scrabbling for clients, fighting for the scraps based on who is the cheapest)
If – like me, you have been in this place, and you didn’t like it, because of the above – you want clients who DON’T quibble over the odd $100 or $200, or even $1000 or $5000 or even $10000 or $20000 because they realise the VALUE of what it is you do is WORTH IT way beyond what you actually charge-
Then what are you DOING ABOUT IT???
How are you planning on leaving this place?
Because this is what I’m seeing a lot of at the moment
Honestly? Frankly CRAP client communication dressed up to be beautiful but really is a version of hiding and perhaps a confidence thing but also very much a FOLLOWING THE MONEY TRAIL thing rather than about the love and passion –
YOU WILL ONLY PULL YOURSELF UP TO WHERE YOU WANT TO BE IF YOU STOP ACTING LIKE YOU BELONG WHERE YOU ARE

The discounts, disguised as ‘useful blog posts’
The posts with keyword- STUFFED terms and I mean bloated like a christmas dinner, masquerading as beautiful
The newsletters, designed to be tempting and interesting but really – are so OBVIOUSLY ABOUT THE SALES
You’re saying to your clients – pick me, pick me, pick me.
Do you know who I want to work with?
I want to work with creative, driven, DEDICATED creative business women. Who dare to show up, think outside of the box, take risks, and for whom business is about SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST THE MONEY and who believe what they do is truly UNIQUE and WORTH PAYING FOR because for them, it’s about the LOVE, not the money.
And that’s YOU, isn’t it?
At least, I think it is.
I’m not quite sure I can tell because at the moment you’re so hidden away in Vendorland, scared to TRULY break out and maybe reach for the next level of business that sure, you’re swarming with ideas and new visions and new launches and promotions and your SEO strategies.
But your CLIENT ACQUISITION? and the clients who LOVE you, rave about you, tell the world about you- slow. Slower than you’d like, and you kind of have to fight for them to book you ‘we just have one more person to see’ or the ‘ we will let you know’.
Because you haven’t yet REALLY ACTED UPON those things that you KNOW are holding you back.
Because it’s easier here, isn’t it? Far easier to convince yourself that you are ‘doing the work’ by working on the things that -surprise!- aren’t actually working beyond the handful or scattering of clients who scrape for every last discount and are quite happy to drop a ton on their car or house or venue or website design but not YOU! – and the reason is – because you, are quite content to live here, aren’t you?
(by the way- big sales tip- don’t EVER mention the word DISCOUNT. You want to know why? Sales psychology – your brain sees DISCOUNT and thinks CHEAP and when it sees CHEAP it thinks CHEAP and YOU, your work??? CHEAP???? and you know the hassle that comes with CHEAP? Like my cheap shoes that fall apart, the cheap clothes that shrink, the cheap food tasting not so awesomeone and the cheap hotel that has a ghost in it- true story, will save it for another day. Point is – run OFFERS and SALES but never DISCOUNT)
And there isn’t anything wrong with living here, if that’s what you want.
It’s just I lived here too, I mean hello? I charged EIGHTEEN DOLLARS PER MONTH for my membership program at one point, at which point I wished somebody had advised me to get my head read.
But then- I started telling my clients why what I do MATTERS. Why it matters to me, and why it matters to them.
I communicated things honestly, openly, no BS.
I didn’t write posts filled about ‘ hey, look how amazing I am, look at what I am doing, here is all of my amazing work!’ because it’s BORING
and it’s just like
A VENDING MACHINE.
And I met you.
I met you, heart-driven, genuine, soulful passionate and DRIVEN creative woman
Because you don’t belong there, do you?
I can see it.
I can see how those cheap clients pull you down
Tear apart your work
Treat you like a gun for hire
How they don’t respect the masses of time, effort, energy and love you’ve spent learning to get great at what it is that you do
And so you want to pull yourself up out of where you are? ok then, so THIS>
- Communicate frequently (NEWSLETTERS)
- Say something that truly MATTERS – start with – WHY does this REALLY mean so much to you? Tell us! Write a post, a newsletter, whatever just get it out there!
- Show us why your brand and business is more than just another one standing in the row (why is your brand different to another who looks similar? What are the meanings and messages behind it)
- Address the real issue here – you don’t believe anyone will pay what you really want to charge, in which case you need to address your CONFIDENCE and MONEY MINDSET on a near DAILY basis
OR you don’t WANT TO do the work necessary to find the clients that value you. Because you think – what? They don’t even exist? too much competition? that SEO cuts the mustard? That it is just too much work to do what it REALLY takes?

If you can’t be bothered to read long posts
If you are content to run a hobby business making a little extra money on the side
If you love working all the hours under the sun
If you want to know if my program has a ‘get -out clause’ (and no it bloody doesn’t, just like yours doesn’t either, because I work with people who go ALL IN)
Then it’s time we part company. Don’t read any further.
But if you want OUT of vendorland?
If you’re still here, I know it’s because you want to make it to do and achieve even greater things.
I know it takes grit to hold on, to want to and MAKE YOURSELF haul out of here.
I know it takes REAL WORK to erase the money beliefs that haunt you and prevent you from LEADING your field.
I know it takes WORK to be able to go out there, and get your message out DAILY ( I created a the Storyteller course for this reason) in a way that ISN’T you hiding or you talking about a lot of nothing and really.. just making noise/ another vending machine in the line
And I know you want this way to be different.
But the only way things will BE different? You know how.
You just haven’t done it yet.
